Magic Mushroom Reunion Party VII at the Dole Cannery's Pomaika'i Ballroom (11-28-2015)

Another successful Magic Mushroom Reunion Party despite the last minute change from Manoa Grand Ballroom to the Pomaika'i Ballroom in Iwilei.  Thanks goodness for social media, all ticket holders showed up at the right place!  Kudos to Dennis & Joy Matsukawa, their family, and the many hands for making this reunion party possible.  Tonights line up:  Tymeless, Audissey & Friends, Powerpoint II, and WhiteLight; hosted by Radio Celebrity Dave Lancaster of Hawaiian 105 KINE. Many family and friends kicking off the holiday season enjoying live music from the past.  Ballroom and line dancers took advantage of the extra large dance floor area.  Perhaps to dance off recent Thanksgiving Day calories.

JonT Media Hawaii was happy to capture many Golden Moments (as shown below), including the surprise Mob Dancers whom adorned feather masks during the 'Cocobana' song.  We even caught a bunch Higas in the house.

Like the old adage, '#7 is heaven', but we're sure '#8 will be just as great!'

It's Friday the 13th at Dot's and Audtissey Bandleader Dennis Matsukawa told everyone to wear Black tonight.  Despite the heavy rains, the loyal Wahiawa line dancers lined up at their usual spots. During the band break, Ronnie Tokunaga and the Music Machine kept the floor warm.  We even had a few birthday celebrations in the house.  Another fun night of music & dance with family & friends. Magic Mushroom Reunion Party # 5 (11/29/2014)

High 5 to Dennis & Joy Matsukawa and their family, on their 5th Magic Mushroom Reunion Party. The Holiday season could not have started on a better note (no pun intended). Once again a sold out event with standing room only.

Tonight's line up: Audissey & Friends, White Light, and Reach II,  Each band featured a full horn section, and talented vocalists.  Reminise of those nights back in the 70s at the Magic Mushroom Nightclub at 677 Ala Moana Boulevard (fka the Gold Bond Building).   The Nightclub is long gone but the spirit and music lives on!  Check out these captured Golden Moments below of the bands, and the attending guests.

Magic Mushroom Reunion Party IV at the Manoa Grand Ballroom (5/17/2014)

  

This was our 4th Magic Mushroom  Reunion Party at the Manoa Grand Ballroom in Moiliili.  What a night! This was a standing room only event!  Tables for this event were sold out months ahead of the event night. Mahalo again to Dennis & Joy Matsukawa and their family for organizing this event; along with celebrity MC Bart DeSilva of KKOL-FM 107.9 Radio.  It was a pleasure to see and catch up with many friends we haven't seen in awhile.  Truly a Reunion Party!

Magic Mushroom Reunion Party III at the Manoa Grand Ballroom (11-29-2013)

Once is good, Two is better, Three is a charm! Dennis & Joy Matsukawa did it again! Another successful MAGIC MUSHROOM REUNION PARTY (MMRP) at the Manoa Grand Ballroom in Moiliili.  Radio celebrity host BART DESILVA of 107.9 Kool Gold kicked off evening with AUDISSEY & FRIENDS on stage first, and their UH horn section.  Also joining them were new vocalists Lester Higa and Dean Guzman.  Some of the songs that got the dancers pumped up were: One Fine Morning, Pretty Lady, Vehicle, Make Me Smile, September, Brick House, Dance To The Music, and Together.

Next on stage, POWER POINT JR.  This was their first MMRP.  The Jr. was added as only some of the original members were able to make it.  We were not disappointed.  Talented friends help complete the band and kept the dance floor busy with songs like Brick House, Skin Tight, Disco Inferno, Play That Funky Music, No Parking, The Bird, and an Earth Wind & Fire Medley.  These men were later joined by Joy Waikaloa and a couple of the band member wives (Jason & Bryan's) doing a song called 'Bad Girls' by Donna Summer.  Wait! Good Guys? Bad Girls? LOL! Obviously they were having a blast.

Closing the evening was WHITE LIGHT making their 3rd MMRP appearance.  We loved Arex's 'Love Potion Number 9' by The Clovers; and Don's 'Sweet Caroline'. by Neil Diamond.  Joy sang 'Rhythm Is Gonna Get You'' by one of Sandy's favorite female artists Gloria Estefan.  The dancers kept busy with songs like Smooth, Mony Mony, Long Train Running, and My Old School.  The last song once again was 'We Are Family'.  How fitting for this group of rockers, line dancers and baby boomers!

Magic Mushroom Reunion Party II at the Manoa Grand Ballroom (2/15/2013)

After the first Magic Mushroom Party in July 2012, Dennis said "this will be the first and last one." I told him, "never say never." Well, my intuitions were right. Here's the Hana Hou in February 2013 with a crowd just a big as the first one.

ED KANOI of 107.9 Kool Gold kicked off the 2nd Magic Mushroom Reunion Party with a bang! First to hit the stage in sizzling red and black colors, ELECTRIC FISH & THE TOFU FACTORY (aka King Pins) playing "Born On The Bayou". The dance floor immediately filled after the audience filled their tummies at the pupu buffet. Even the Wahiawa Wahine Line dancers had a private dance area near the stage while dancing to "Disco Inferno".

AUDISSEY & FRIENDS was next on stage sporting a new 4-piece horn section, and extraordinaire drummer Alvin Fejarang (former Kapalana).  Special guest appearances by former 'Natural High' vocalists Rob Yamamoto singing "Summer Sun", and Ken Uyeno singing "Soul Man".

WHITE LIGHT commanded the stage with all their signature songs from their days performing in Spencecliff Hawaii Restaurants. Tammie Kotani won a White Light T-shirt for being the first to name those restaurants. Dean Guzman also won a T-shirt for sharing his maki-sushi with Joy Waikoloa. The dance floor overflowed during the "Electric Slide". The evening ended with a hana hou of "We Are Family!" How fitting for this audience of baby boomers and music lovers of the 70s!

Audissey Live at Dots in Wahiawa (1-19-2013)

It's a jam session tonight! It's fun whenever you bring a bunch of friend musicians and singers together on stage with no rehearsal.   Anything can happen!  Lead by Dennis Matsukawa a veteran musician, AUDISSEY has been playing Classic Rock, Oldies, R&B, Disco and more since 2004.  The core band has since minimized but Dennis always has an abundance of friends willing to jump on the band wagon (no pun intended) when needed.   Jokingly, Dennis said he always wanted to own an Audi but that never happen so hence the band name.   The band has performed at various Honolulu venues such as Waikiki Yacht Club, Honolulu Yacht Club, Hawaiian Brian's, Ground Floor, Aku Bone, Ige's, Dots and more.   In addition to performing at company parties and class reunions, Audissey has also supported a variety of community events such as Ward Centers Garlic Festival, Hawaii Raceway Park Small Gun Shootout, Hawaiian Water Adventure Park Auto Race Day, and the Wahiawa-Wailua Rotary Club Wine-tasting fundraiser.

On this cool night in Wahiawa, 12 year old Sterling Sakuma on drums, and his mom Sheryl on bass guitar (It's a family affair!).   Also in the dance floor were the Aiea Ballroom Dancers and the Wahiawa Wahine Line Dancers.

If you were night clubing during the early 70's, The Magic Mushroom nightclub at the Gold Bond building (677 Ala Moana) had to be on your list of clubs for live dancing music.

The Magic Mushroom Reunion Party on 7/27/2012 has brought back the memories of those days.  Hosted by Ed Kanoi of 107.9 Radio, this party featured Soulz, White Light, and Audissey.
